Chenab Bridge: An Engineering Wonder! World's Highest Rail Bridge in Jammu & Kashmir.

The 359-meter-tall Chenab Bridge, situated in the Indian region of Jammu and Kashmir, is higher than the widely recognised and iconic Eiffel Tower. To learn more amazing facts about Chenab Rail Bridge, scroll down. Nestled in the heart of Jammu and Kashmir, India's Reasi District sits the amazing Chenab Rail Bridge, an engineering marvel that soars to heights higher than even the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris. As the World's Highest Rail Bridge, this impressive steel arch bridge is perched majestically at a dizzying elevation of 359 meters above the serene Chenab River.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Chenab Bridge on February 20, 2024, praising it as one of the nation's greatest engineering feats in recent memory. In addition to joining the Bakkal and Kauri regions, this train bridge cuts the time it takes to get from Kashmir Valley to Katra, Jammu, from six hours to just five. To facilitate easier and more practical access to the parts of the valley that were previously inaccessible by road, a lengthy approach road has also been constructed to connect the bridge.

This new beacon of hope that makes networking possible will either create jobs for the community or encourage the socioeconomic advancement of the area.

Location of Chenab Bridge.

The Chenab Bridge, which is situated near Reasi and spans the powerful Chenab River, is a magnificent big steel arch situated in the hilly landscape of the Himalayas. region of India's Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) province. Between the settlements of Bakkal and Kauri, the bridge creates a convenient path.

Height of Chenab Bridge.

Standing at a height of 1,178 feet (359 meters), the Chenab Bridge is a remarkable feat of engineering that towers above the placid waters of the Chenab River. This amazing building is 29 meters taller than the well-known Eiffel Tower in Paris, which stands at 330 meters.

Price of Chenab Bridge.

This cutting-edge engineering structure, which was planned and completed successfully by the Konkan Railway, Afcons Infrastructure & DRDO, is valued at about Rs. 1,486 crore (USD 190 million) and is constructed out of 28,660 metric tonnes of steel.

Design and Construction Details of the Chenab Bridge.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Konkan Railway Corporation collaborated to build the Chenab Bridge using a brilliant technique: one enormous steel arch. They then worked along with Afcons Infrastructure, a reputable member of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, to carry out additional design and construction work. The bridge's arch was difficult to install because of its enormous height and unfavourable weather. About 25,000 tons of steel, 4,000 tons of reinforced steel, and 46,000 cubic meters of concrete were used in the bridge's construction. Furthermore regarding There were eight million cubic meters of excavation.

The following are the design factors that were taken into account when creating the Chenab Rail Bridge:

1. The Limit State Design Method was put into practice while strictly adhering to BS norms.

2. The Limit State Design Method was applied while following BS guidelines.

3. Utilizing wind tunnel testing to compute the effects of wind loads.

4. Indian Institute of Technology-created seismic spectra tailored to a particular site (IIT).

5. The ductility details of very tall and hollow rectangular RCC piers are specified in Roorkee Euro code 8.

6. Long welded rail (LWR) should be installed over the bridges, and force calculations should be made using UIC-774-3R guidelines.

7. A design that is blast-resistant was adopted. 8. Design fatigue check under BS guidelines.

8. Deformation constraints by the UIC-776-2R and UIC-776-3R recommendations' comfort standards.

9. The structures have redundancy built in, enabling reduced levels of activity during catastrophes and safeguarding against collapse in dire situations.

In J&K, Railways Test-Run the Highest Arch Rail Bridge in the World.

To prepare for the opening of rail service on the line from Reasi to Baramulla in Kashmir, Indian Railways successfully ran an eight-coach MEMU train trial run on June 20 on the Chenab Bridge, the highest railway bridge in the world. A 46-kilometre electrified line segment between Sangaldan in the Ramban district and Reasi was used for a trial run at 40 km/h after top personnel from the Railway Board, Northern Railway, and Konkan Railway thoroughly inspected the recently built Chenab Bridge. The Ministry claims that this was the first time a full train had ever crossed the world's highest arch railway bridge, the Chenab River, which connects the Dugga and Bakkal stations

The stations, Bakkal, Sawlakote, Dugga, and Reasi, are located in J&K's Reasi district. According to the government, this section's electrification was completed using cutting-edge ROCS (Rigid Overhead Conductor System) technology at 25 kV for the first time on railroads.

Successful Rail Trail On Chenab Bridge

Respected PM Modi's Perspective on the Bridge.

Additionally, the project has political ramifications. The Chenab bridge is viewed as a component of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives to boost J&K's economy. Following Article 370's repeal, the administration pledged to integrate the area with the nation as a whole. It was stated that the change would foster stability and growth. One significant step toward that goal is the project. "Article 370 was the biggest hurdle in the development of Jammu and Kashmir,"

Modi ji stated during his visit to Jammu to officially launch the bridge. It was eliminated by the BJP government. Currently, Jammu and Kashmir is heading toward comprehensive development.

Conclusion.

The Chenab Bridge, which provides 24-hour access to the formerly unreachable parts of Jammu and Kashmir, would not only boost tourism in these regions but also completely change the business environment. This bridge will be advantageous to the area's agriculture and horticulture, which is the city's main engine of economic growth. The Vande Matram train, which would run beside the railway bridge, will enable the people to punctually supply fresh produce to various parts of the nation. All things considered, the bridge might significantly alter Jammu and Kashmir's social and economic scene while promoting travel and supporting military activities.
